Place Mats and Queen Elizabeth Land?

This morning, the Queen attended a cabinet meeting in Downing street. The last time a monarch did this was back in 1781. Constitutionally the Queen largely has a ceremonial role and does not get involved in the day-to-day running of Government. So for her to attend a 30 minute meeting and sit in Cameron’s seat has become quite an event for administrative and political spectators.

Already Professors are disagreeing over whether this was the right thing to do or not saying that she will hear things she should not hear.

On arrival she was presented with 60 place mats to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee this year. Place Mats? . . . I bet she’ll use them everyday…But on a serious note – what do you get a lady who literally has or could have almost everything?

Oh wait, you could rename half of Antarctica after her as a respectful and lovely gesture? How absurd…

So that’s what we have done, I say we, I think most of the country will be thinking WHYY!! But now 169,000 sq miles (almost twice the size of the UK) is called ‘Queen Elizabeth Land.’

The Queen has had one hell of a year! She had to stand on a freezing boat in the rain for hours, witness a ‘pop’ concert in her back garden and jump out of a plane to arrive in the Olympic Stadium. What a year! Looking back at my year I’ve don’t….not that much! And to think she’s just found out she’ll be a Great Grandmother. Maybe for Christmas, she’ll finally be able to relax and erm enjoy those place mats. . .

I love the Queen, I think she’s great, though I am slightly envious that even at her age she has had a far more eventful year then I could ever have dreamed of!
