Fox Hunting + Gay Rights

May 17, 2011

For the elite classes hunting foxes with hounds has always seemed a ‘good bit of game’ and part of their lifestyle. In November 2004 this became illegal under the Hunting Act. There was a bitter feud over this with many pressure groups and activists being hoisted into the media whirlpool, the eventual conclusion was that enjoying a hound chase a fox then rip it apart was wrong.

7 years on and the Conservatives still think that Fox Hunting should be brought back! They know it would be unpopular so they proposed maybe a licence for it or only being able to hunt on particular days of the year. That is like saying, you can what people get murdered, and release the murderer on them….but only every March.

Thankfully, the current coalition prevents the Conservatives from introducing this bill because the Liberal Democrats and Labour are fully against it meaning it would not get passed through the Commons. As well as this, many Conservative MP’s such as Simon Kirby believe that if there was to be a repeal on the ban, that he and many other Tori MPs would vote with the opposition.

Is it time for David Cameron and the Conservatives to leave their old-fashioned values behind and join the 21st Century?
Or should the other 90% of the population decide to leave behind their morals and watch a pre meditated murder?

Fox Hunting has been a good example of where the Conservatives seem to be failing the British People. Recently, Cameron backed plans to prevent gay kissing scenes before the watershed. Antony Cotton (Soap Actor) who plays  Gay father in a soap spoke out, as well as many other actors with one twittering ‘im sure Cameron should be standing up for equal rights.’  It is evident that the country is in outrage at this and that Cameron should explain his statement. The Nuclear family is no longer the norm in Britain, as in many other places in the world, Gays, Lesbians and transgender are just the same as everybody else, so what is his problem?

Again his Tori roots are showing through and as annoyingly as possible, we have to admit…we have a government that seems to want to go back in time than admit time is going forward.

I’ll comment on your actual question that you posed. Which was the following:

“Is it time for David Cameron and the Conservatives to leave their old-fashioned values behind and join the 21st Century?
Or should the other 90% of the population decide to leave behind their morals and watch a pre meditated murder?”

I don’t think its time for the Conservatives to leave their old-fashioned values. Why should they? They are entitled to have their own morals, views on what is right or wrong. At the same time they have the right to push through government whatever they feel is appropiate. Regardless if the majority, minority, you or I feel it is right, its up to them to decide what is right or wrong.

I don’t know a lot about British politics, but if the Conseratives are not reflecting what you or the majoruty believe in then they should be voted out of office at the next election. Be replaced with someone or group that more reflects what you believe in. That is the right thing to do instead of expecting them to change.

Thank you for your insight, it is right that the conservatives should follow what they believe in as this is what their members are elected to do. In the last general election the Conservatives did not win a majority and are now in coalition with the Liberal Democrats which the majority of people dislike because they have not even voted for this outcome! It is impossible to say whether they will stay in power or not or even when the next general election shall be, we will just have to wait and see.
